UNHCR | We Were Here

Being part of UNHCR's Project "We Were Here" was a privilege. Our task was to find refugees from around the world who, despite often extremely difficult living situations, were still managing to pursue their passions.

Originally from the Democratic Republic, Bemeriki is currently a resident of Rwamwanja refugee settlement in Urganda. We discovered him through his insatiable desire to share his passion for permaculture and mushrooms. His meeting with vegan chef and grower Gaz Oakly is tender and joyful. Two people from different worlds sharing the same passion.

A GROWER OF MANY THINGS: FOOD, MEDICINE, HOPE AND EMPOWERMENT, THIS MAN HAS SO MUCH HEART AND SOUL.

Mohammad was forced to flee his beautiful country home in Homs, Syria for the desert refuge of Azraq camp in Jordan: a man-made wasteland where it is forbidden to plant a single seed.

Originally an engineer, now aged 70 and retired, Mohammad has become the much beloved toy maker of the camp, creating toys for the camp children out of recycling and rubbish. Every child deserves a childhood and every child has an imagination.

When Mohammed meets Swedish inventor Simone Giertz, a surprisingly tender and honest relationship is formed

IN WAS NOTHING BUT AN HONOUR TO SPEAK TO MOHAMMAD, A DIGNIFIED GENTLEMAN, WHO IS A TRUE INSPIRATION.

WE DISCOVERED THESE THREE AWESOME WOMEN WHO FORM THE HIP-HOP TRIO “FO SHO”, FROM A SMALL ARTICLE ON UKRAINIAN RAP MUSIC AND KNEW THEY WERE SPECIAL FROM THE START.
